Manipur video incident took place barely 1 km from India's 'best' police station

A vivid visual investigation by India Today’s Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) Team pinpoints the location where the Manipur viral video showing women being paraded naked by a mob was filmed. Visual clues in the footage analysed with open-source satellite imagery suggest that the incident took place approximately a km away from what has been ranked as the best police station of the country by the government.

Every year, the Government of India selects best performing police stations across the country based on several performance indicators. According to a statement released by the Home Ministry, among the criteria of selection are the performance of the police in cases related to crime against women as well as crime against weaker sections. The police station in question, Nongpok Sekmai police station was ranked the ‘Best in the Country’ in 2020. In the video that sparked nationwide outrage, women were seen sexually assaulted by a group of men. India Today examined the video footage frame by frame to pinpoint the location of the distressing incident.
